Welcome, kekat. Where are you located? Maybe you could find more suitable materials. I know hazel as a high density and I'm not sure how that ivy works. -Chris

Well the notch in the hearth board is not correct, and the hearth board looks to thick try 1/4 inch I don't know metrics. And the drill should be about 20 to 24 inches long and 1/4 inch dia. works...

Maybe try a mullein stalk about the size as MarkD said in the ivy hearth ,some times a bit of fine grit in the spindle hole will get it going ,as in help to produce the fine dust that is needed for...
